One Piece Luffy Watermelon Promo Becomes the New Collector Talking Point

The One Piece market has found its latest chase item, and it is not even a standard Bandai gameplay card. The new Luffy Watermelon promo comes from Shueisha’s NatsuComi 2026 summer comics campaign, a Japanese bookstore promotion that kicked off on July 1 and runs through August 31 across roughly 3,400 participating bookstores. The campaign features 22 special “Meta Kira” cards from major Shueisha manga titles, including One Piece, SPY×FAMILY, Kingdom, Kagurabachi and more.
What has made the Luffy card explode across collector circles is the artwork. Rather than a battle pose or standard character portrait, Luffy is shown in a bright summer scene holding a stack of watermelons, with the card finished in a metallic style and featuring Eiichiro Oda’s printed signature. It has the feel of a manga collectible, a promo card and a piece of seasonal Japanese merch all in one. The official NatsuComi site also notes that the cards are limited, with distribution methods and start dates varying by store, and that cards can finish early once stock runs out.
That limited bookstore distribution is a big part of the hype. This is not a card most international collectors can simply buy from a local store. Early secondary-market activity has already been aggressive, with Japanese marketplace listings showing sold examples around ¥4,000 and overseas presale listings appearing much higher. One eBay presale listing showed a US$99 price point and claimed 100 sold, which shows how quickly global collectors have noticed it.
The easy comparison being thrown around online is “the Van Gogh Pikachu of One Piece”. That might be a little early, but the logic is understandable. It has a famous character, standout artwork, a non-standard release path, a printed creator signature and a design that instantly feels different from regular set cards. For collectors, those are exactly the ingredients that can turn a simple promo into a long-term conversation piece.
For now, the Luffy Watermelon promo looks like one to watch rather than one to blindly chase. Early prices on fresh Japanese promos can move around quickly once more copies hit the market, especially as stock leaves Japan and lands with overseas sellers. But as far as modern One Piece collectibles go, this is easily one of the most interesting non-set promos we have seen in a while.
