How to spot a masterball Pokemon in Japanese 151
Share
As the kids and I started opening packets of 151 booster packs we noticed a lot of what we thought were masterballs, thinking somehow we struck a jackpot box. It wasn't until I saw a listing for a Pokeball (or reverse holo) Pikachu that I realised that maybe we had it wrong. So this got me thinking, what is a Masterball and what is a Pokeball and how to tell the difference.
We searched online and there wasn't much around but we got a glimpse of card which resembled a Masterball (it didn't look too different but enough to let us think that we didn't have any).
The next day we opened 4 more packs and as luck would have it we had 5 hits - one of them being an Eevee Pokeball (reverse holo) as well as the Eevee Masterball. Perfect way to answer our question - well a Pikachu would have been the perfect way but this was pretty close.
We threw the Masterball straight into a palms grader to be shipped off to psa for grading. Looks clean and centered, lets see if we can score a 10.
So the TLDR:
From what we noticed the hit rate for Pokeball (reverse holo) are around 1 in 3 packs.
From what we know the hit rate for a Masterball is 1 per box (1 in 20 packs) which would put the chances of scoring the Pikachu Masterball at roughly 1 in 3,060 packs.
At the time of writing:
The price for a Pikachu Pokeball (reverse holo) is around $5USD
The price for a Pikachu Masterball is approx $180USD
